"Solving the Puzzle: Lyme Disease, West Nile Virus & You"
Panel Exhibit On Display at National Medical Museum Starting May 10, 2010
Washington, D.C. – May 10, 2010: The stories of West Nile virus and Lyme disease and how they affect human health are the focus of a new traveling exhibition "Solving the Puzzle: Lyme Disease, West Nile Virus & You," opening May 10 at the National Museum of Health and Medicine. NMHM is a Department of Defense museum and an element of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. The Museum is located on the campus at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
"Solving the Puzzle" centers on Lyme disease and West Nile virus as models for exploring the interplay between environmental change, biodiversity and vector-borne disease. Topics include key components of the pathogens, vectors and hosts of these representative vector-borne diseases, including essential information about their distinctive life cycles, where and how humans interact with these cycles and an examination of common and differing elements of these diseases.
NMHM is the first museum to display this traveling exhibit. The Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History organized the exhibition with financial support from a Science Education Partnership Award from the National Institutes of Health. The traveling exhibit is based on a larger exhibition recently on display at the Yale Peabody Museum.

- The Museum is open to the public and admission is free. Limited parking is available on weekdays; parking is widely available on weekends and holidays.
- NOTE: Adults must present government-issued photo identification to gain entry to Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Vehicles are subject to search. Adults should be prepared to show identification again at the Museum entrance.
