Exhibition Poster:
This poster contains images that are derived primarily from the holdings of the Otis Historical Archives at the National Museum of Health and Medicine. The engraving (top) was scanned from Joseph K. Barnes' commission as Medical Inspector General (as a Colonel) dated March 3 1864, signed by President Lincoln. The portrait of Lincoln (left) is an original lithograph published by Middleton, Strobridge & Co., Cincinnati, Ohio from a photograph by Matthew Brady. The top image (right side) was sketched by Army Medical Museum illustrator Hermann Faber on April 15, 1865 and shows the persons who visited Lincoln in the hours before he died (the original is on display in the exhibit). The bottom image (right side) was published in Harper's Weekly on April 29, 1865. The Lincoln signature (bottom) was scanned from the Barnes commission noted above. Art design by Navjeet Chhina, NMHM Exhibits Specialist.
