Syphilis Severe Skeletal Damage Caused By Syphilis

Skull destruction caused by syphilis In the late stages of the disease, syphilis can cause severe destruction to the skeleton. This skull is from a 24-year-old man from New York City who died in the early 1900s. The large holes in the bone and the shape of the nasal bones are typical of the bony changes resulting from this sexually transmissible disease. (AFIP #563)
