NATIONAL MUSEUM OF HEALTH AND MEDICINE SEEKS VOLUNTEERS TO SERVE AS DOCENTS TO PROVIDE GUIDED TOURS (Click on image to enlarge)
WASHINGTON - The National Museum of Health and Medicine is
recruiting volunteers to serve as docents who will provide guided tours to
groups of adults and school-aged children weekdays and weekends.
"We are looking for people who have an interest in working with the public,
who can teach and interpret the subject areas of the museum's exhibits,"
said Kathy La Plante, the museum's tour program coordinator. "This is an
opportunity to positively impact the public in a fun and dynamic manner."
Applicants should have the following qualifications:
* possess an eagerness to learn and enthusiasm for providing meaningful experiences for visitors
* excellent communication skills and voice capability to be heard with large groups
* willingness to learn and communicate effectively with audiences of all abilities and interests
* ability to walk and stand on carpeted and hard surfaces for 1-2 hours without a break
* ability to manipulate scientific equipment and handle specimens with care
