MUSEUM LOANS ARTIFACTS TO NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE

The National Museum of Health and Medicine loaned an Aesculapian staff, a U.S. Public Health Service plaque, and a bronze mortar and pestle from its more than 12,000 historical medical objects to the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Md. The artifacts were on display in the lobby of the National Library of Medicine in an exhibit called "I Swear by Apollo the Physician: Greek Medicine from the Gods to Galen," which examined the scientific methods of ancient Greek medicine that began with Hippocrates and Aristotle. The National Library of Medicine, on the campus of the National Institutes of Health, is the world's largest medical library with books, journals, technical reports, manuscripts, microfilms, photographs, and images. For more information, call (888) 346-3656 or visit their web site.
